Canadian Research Says RA Sufferers Are 50 Percent More Susceptible To Diabetes

Researchers review the database of British Columbia and concentrated on the medical records from 1996 to 2006. It involved thousands of people with RA, psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis and those without rheumatic ailments.

The researchers tried to determine the level of diabetes risk involved. It was found that the risk of diabetes increased by 50 percent among those with rheumatic disease.

According to Daniel Solomon, M.D., the study author from the Division of Rheumatology, Brigham Women’s Hospital, diabetes risk may increase with age as well as one’s body mass index (BMI).
