(Presseportal openBroadcast) - Orlando, FL – March 16, 2015 – Diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases nowadays. It is affecting millions of people worldwide. While there are medications believed to be helpful for diabetics, there are also natural remedies that scientists find to be more useful as a treatment.
Turmeric is believed to be one of the world’s most extensively researched anti-diabetic plants. This ancient, medicinal spice has been used since time immemorial in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.
A new literature review was published in the International Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. The review’s title is "Anti-Hyperglycemic Effect and Insulin Sensitizing Effects of Turmeric and Its Principle Constituent Curcumin."
According to the review, turmeric has the potential ability to treat and prevent type 2 diabetes. This condition has been identified to be the most prevalent diagnoses worldwide. The review reveals that curcumin is potentially responsible for the therapeutic benefits.
Curcumin is a phytochemical found in turmeric. It is believed to be an ideal intervention for type 2 diabetes. It is thought to work by mitigating the characteristic pathophysiological hallmarks of the condition, which include insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar or hyperglycemia.
Five human clinical trials used curcumin or turmeric, three of which were conducted with diabetic or prediabetic participants. There are various ways that turmeric is thought to improve the state of type 2 diabetes.
According to the review, curcumin has the potential ability to reduce liver glucose and glycogen production. It could also stimulate the increase of glucose uptake as well as increase the activation of AMP kinase.
Curcumin also has the potential ability to suppress hyperglycemia-induced inflammatory state as well as stimulate insulin secretion from pancreatic tissues. It could also improve pancreatic cell function as well as increase phosphorylation of AKT.
According to the review, curcumin has a glucose-lowering effect. It also has the potential ability to improve beta cell effect as well as fatty acid oxidation and utilization.
In the study published by the journal of American Diabetic Association called Diabetes Care, it was found that six capsules of 250mg of curcumin could help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes among prediabetics.
The capsules were taken on a daily basis and were thought to be 100 percent effective as a preventive measure. Today, there are curcumin supplements available in the market. These supplements are thought to offer a myriad of health benefits.
There are many people who use curcumin supplements as a preventive measure against a range of diseases. The most popular curcumin supplements contain a bioavailability-enhancing ingredient called BioPerine, which is a black pepper extract (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
