(Presseportal openBroadcast) - Orlando, FL – April 14, 2016 – Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the conditions that is not just painful but also debilitating. This condition affects millions of people from around the world and is reducing their overall quality of life. Unfortunately, it seems that there are more undesirable consequences of having the condition.

A study finds Tai Chi potentially helpful for reducing heart disease risk for women with rheumatoid arthritis. This form of exercise was originally developed for self-defense purposes. It is believed to be a gentle way to fight stress and anxiety.

Tai Chi is characterized by meditation in motion and is developed to promote serenity through flowing, gentle movements. The movements are performed in a focused and slow manner accompanied by deep breathing.

It comes in different styles and every style often emphasizes a variety of Tai Chi methods and principles. Some styles are developed for health maintenance while others are simply for the martial arts aspect of tai chi.

This is an excellent exercise for arthritis sufferers since it requires minimal stress on the joints and muscles. It can also be performed by individuals of all fitness levels and age. It is a low impact exercise that is ideal for older adults who are not fond of exercising.

In a South Korean study conducted by Hayang University, the researchers tried to determine whether Tai Chi has an effect on the cardiovascular risk among elderly women with rheumatoid arthritis.

The study involved 56 female participants who received a three-month exercise intervention once a week. The control group, on the other hand, was given general information about the benefits of regular exercise.

It was found that the Tai Chi group experienced an improvement in blood vessel health and a reduction in arterial stiffness as well as in their total cholesterol levels. The study was published in the Arthritis Research && Therapy medical journal.

According to the researchers, Tai Chi has successfully helped improve endothelial dysfunction as well as arterial stiffness. It could be a useful behavioral strategy for the prevention of cardiovascular disease among individuals with the condition.

It can be helpful for arthritis sufferers to engage in physical activities such as Tai Chi. There are actually many who practice having a healthy diet and lifestyle. There are even those who take natural supplements such as glucosamine.

Glucosamine supplements are widely popular among individuals with arthritis and even athletes. The most recommended glucosamine supplements are those with methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Supplement-2000mg-serving/dp/B0126ZF0B0/).
