Art lovers and explorers of various cultures that want to have an essence of the cultural ethos and artistry of Bengal needs to delve into the rural folk art vertical. Catering to this art form Birla Academy of Art & Culture has organized the screening of a documentary film, titled “Folk Theatre of Bengal: Exploring the Fragile Existence of Theatre Groups in Rural Bengal”. The screening of this documentary took place in the art gallery Kolkata unit on July 22nd in the evening at 6:30pm in the presence of an enthusiastic audience.
The “Folk Theatre of Bengal: Exploring the Fragile Existence of Theatre Groups in Rural Bengal” screened in Birla Academy of Art & Culture has been produced by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Groups. The script and direction of the documentary film has been given by Ashoke Vishwanathan and had duration of 55 minutes. As the subject of the film goes, this documentary highlights several nuances of the rural theatre, its play characterization, depicting of various philosophy and the like. The subject matter was rich and has earned much appreciation and accolades from the audience. Also, this documentary has also got selected for the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India.
