(Presseportal openBroadcast) - The world is going digital. The regular advancement in the computer science has enabled every section of the society experience a whole new world of digital technology. These technological innovations have helped medical science as well to evolve to this the next generation. Dental imaging is also one such field of medical science which is getting benefited day in and day out with the evolution of digital technology.

Out of much innovative advancement in the dental imaging technology, Orthopantomogram or OPG is helping today’s dentists the most. An OPG is a panoramic or wide view x-ray of the lower face, which displays all the teeth of the upper and lower jaw on a single film. It demonstrates the number, position and growth of all the teeth including those that have not yet surfaced or erupted. It is different from the small close up x-rays dentists take of individual teeth. An OPG can also reveal problems with the jawbone and the joint which connects the jawbone to the head, called the Temporomandibular joint or TMJ.

OPG plays a vital role in the planning of orthodontic treatment, for assessment of wisdom teeth or for a general overview of the teeth and the bone which supports the teeth. It is this USP of OPG that makes it one of the best tools for dentists to diagnose and plan the treatment of the potential problems that might emerge in future. With the traditional techniques, the dentists were only able to get images of either upper jaw of the lower in one shot. It used to be difficult to take separate shots and merge them into one frame and then try to diagnose the exact position of the problem. Still, it was not possible from the traditional methods to measure the length or the depth of a tooth that is yet to surface and thereby, its impact on the adjoining teeth or even on the TMJ.

The dentists in India too, are now able to enjoy the comfort of OPG, thanks to companies like Vatech India. Vatech’s Pax-i range of imaging technology has eased the lives of dentists to a great extent. The Pax-i 2D variant of the Pax-i series is designed in such a way that it generates the panoramic view x-ray of the entire face, including upper and lower jaws in a single film. The best part of Pax-i 2D imaging is that is it very easy to handle and does not require too many technicians to operate and can easily be connected with the computer where all records can be maintained in the desired manner.

Orthopantomogram or OPG is a boon in the field of dental imaging. It has helped dentists plan the treatment of their patients in advance. For a dentist who aims at bringing comfort and ease to his patients, it is important for him to be lashed with latest technologies in his clinic. After all, a satisfied patient is all one works for!
